This place will soon turn into a template for the glorious days of 'the old' guard of Indian restaurants in the bay. In an unassuming interior painted bright with turmeric yellow you will find conventional north Indian food that you may soon long for, given the rapid evolution of the Indian food scene in the country. I got the dahi papdi chaat and it needn't have come with the edible flowers. The chaat was good, though the tamarind date chutney could be better. I also ordered the saag channa and bature. The saag was delicious and creamy and the bature were not giant balls of dough, but a pair of oval shaped bread. They had been well leavened and were stretchy and paired great with the channa. Overall I'd come here for comfort food on a cool night seeking warm home fare.

My husband and I ate at this restaurant, and the food was amazingly delicious!! We know it used to be a different but still an Indian restaurant, but the quality of the food is an another level. We will definitely come again. Highly recommended.

A friend of mine who moved to Santa Rosa said that when she’s back in SF the first place she goes is Tilak’s. And I can see why. Super tasty food, good service and price. Not a flashy place just real good food and vibes.
